LATE BREAKING GREAT NEWS FOR PASSENGER RAIL......
FRIDAY EVENING APRIL 18, 2008 AT 7:32PM THE MAINE STATE SENATE PASSED LD2019
This bill makes it possible for the Northern New England Passenger Rail
Authority to make funding arrangements to extend our Downeaster Passenger Train Service to Freeport and Brunswick - starting
almost immediately!
Thanks to those of you who
contacted members of the House, the Senate and the Appropriations Committee - this would not have happened without your help.
Please thank those members of the Legislature who responded to your calls. Also calls to Governor Baldacci's office
in Augusta would be appropriate. The Governor and his Chief of Staff, Jane Lincoln were outstanding in their support
for the bill and employed wonderful negotiating skills to gain further support in the Legislature. Hi Ho Hi Ho - it's off
to Freeport and Brunswick we go. Please remember, if TrainRiders/Northeast didn't exist - there would be no Amtrak Downeaster
service in Maine or New Hampshire. Your continued support is appreciated. Wayne E. Davis, Chairman, TNE |
WI-FI being tested on the Downeaster...
April 17th, 2008 Tests are underway that will likely lead to the
implementation of Wi-Fi service in the Business Class section of the Downeaster.
Sprint has provided NNEPRA with several test units which attach to the window.
Preliminary tests during the past few weeks have been encouraging with but two deadspots of short duration.
There will be a Wi-Fi charge for those Business Class passengers using the system.
Assuming the trial works successfully, it could be expanded to the other coaches.
Here’s to technological improvements!
